Course Description
Medicinal Biochemistry II is the second quarter of a two-quarter biochemistry course sequence
designed for 1st year PharmD students in the UW School of Pharmacy. This course covers three
relevant areas of biochemistry. The first one-third of the class is devoted to an introduction
of the biochemistry of drug metabolism and drug-drug interactions. The second one-third of the class
outlines the major pathways of energy utilization and storage, and the role of the major organs and
tissues in this process. The final section of the class is focused on providing an integrated
approach to regulation and hormonal control of energy metabolism with an emphasis on major
disease states.
Prerequisite: MEDCH 570P or permission of the instructor.
