New World Archaeology

Extra Credit

Assignments

Extra-credit can be received for reading short informative articles covering some aspect of a recent class theme and writing up brief (1 page) reports summarizing and evaluating the article's main point/s.

Articles could come from Scientific American, Archaeology, Science or any other credible source (e.g., National Geographic or New York Times). These magazines can be found in a number of campus libraries  (e.g., Scientific American is shelved in Allen’s Natural Science library [call no. 605 s];  Archaeology can be found on the 3rd floor of Suzallo [call no. 913.05 ar]).  Many are now available online through the Library Gateway à “Electronic Journals”.  Other sources may be used if cleared with me first.  Reports on current or breaking archaeological news are particularly encouraged.

Reports are to be typed in proper English, no more than 1 page, and should be single spaced and clearly labeled with the students name and the class theme that the article best relates to (e.g., “PaleoIndians,” “Archaic”, “Agricultural origins” etc.).  The purpose of the report is to show that you learned something from the selection and should relate the reading back to concepts discussed in class or in the core readings.  You will receive 1/5 % (that’s a “half percent”) grade for each extra-credit report. All report must have relevance for the archaeology of the Americas (Old World reports won’t count).  [Required reserve articles may not be used for this assignment].

Reports should be submitted through the Electronic Sumbissions link
