Important information concerning make-up labs.
If you need to attend a make-up lab, you may attend any available section. However, the following rules apply:
- Permission must be obtained from the TA of your regular section as well as the TA for the section you wish to attend. It is not necessary to obtain permission from the faculty member in charge of the lab course. The TA of a given section may, at his or her discretion, forbid a student who is not registered for his or her section from participating in a make-up session. Common reasons to deny a student's entry are (a) the section is full or, (b) the student has attended too many sessions as a "make-up" (see below).
- Lab manual pages completed by a student in other than his or her regular section must be initialed by both the TA for the section attended (to verify that the student did the work) and by the student's regular TA (so that the grade will be recorded). It is the student's responsibility to ensure that the worksheets get initialed by both TA's. Students should not assume that the TA will "take care of it."
- A student may not use another session during the week to "make-up" a lab on a regular basis, that is, to switch sections without changing registration. The ability to make up a lab in another section is a privilege that will be revoked if the student abuses it. If you are unable to attend your regularly scheduled section, you should ask for a change in registration.
