Diagnostic Radiology Imaging Physics Course
Course Description
This course provides radiology residents with an understanding of the physical principles and theories involved in diagnostic imaging modalities. For each imaging modality, the image formation process along with important image quality metrics (noise, low-contrast resolution, spatial resolution, etc…) and their relation to image appearance are discussed. The course uses the AAPM curriculum and the RSNA web modules to provide clinical relevance and to aid each resident in preparing for the ABR board examination. Additionally, basic radiation safety, radiation biology, radiation protection, and radiation risk are discussed. The course objective is to provide the radiology resident with an understanding of current imaging technology and of the physical principles that drive image quality and radiation dose.

Time: 2-3 p.m.
Location: Radiology Conference Room - RR202
CLASS ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Dear R3 Residents,
The diagnostic radiology imaging physics course will be offered next year starting January 11, 2024 and will end in November/December 2024 depending on modifications/cancellations that happen often during the year.
- The physics class will be held each week at UWMC-Montlake on Thursday afternoon from 2:00-3:00 PM in the Radiology Conference room - RR202. No Zoom option is offered at this time per Dr. Kanal.
- All current 3rd year residents are expected to take the course. Attendance is mandatory in person ONLY and we do take attendance each week. Weekly reminders on lecture topic and reading material will be sent out. We highly recommend you do some reading before coming to class.
NEW: ACGME Milestones for MRI
Dear UW R4 & R5 Residents,
As part of your Residency requirements, there are certain milestones that need to be achieved. One of those is a demonstrated competency in MR Safety. In addition to the regularly scheduled lectures and coursework, you will need to spend a brief time shadowing one of the clinical MR Technologists.
Please print out the form linked below, schedule a time to work with one of the clinical MR Technologists, complete the form with the MR Technologist as indicated, and return the completed form (via email) to Nate Bell. Remember that this needs to be completed before the end of your residency.
