Traditional Ecological Knowledge project

University of Washington
Fall 1998 - Spring 1999

Mission statement/Goals

Designed and led by a small group of graduate students, this project involved an in-depth review of the literature on traditional ecological/environmental knowledge (TEK) from an interdisciplinary perspective, in addition to an informal email discussion that created a forum for students, scholars, and practitioners to pose pertinent questions to each other. The goals of the project were to build a foundation of knowledge on the topic of TEK and on the nature, content, and methods of research related to TEK; to identify important areas for future research; to spark discussion of pertinent issues related to TEK; and to produce an annotated bibliography that will be of use to other students and scholars interested in TEK.
