October 16, 06 Chris Himes , PhD student of our department and participant of this semminar, will receive money to cover his expenses to present his research at a meeting of one of the AIBS member societies - the Evolution Meetings in New Zealand. He will also be honored at the AIBS Annual Meeting in Washington, D.C. in May, recognized at an annual lunch with AIBS Board members and other mentors. Registration fees will be waived and travel expenses will be paid by AIBS. He will also become a member of AIBS. Diversity Scholars receive a full one-year AIBS membership, which includes a subscription to BioScience. Diversity Scholars are encouraged to participate in AIBS programs and activities.

Dr. Eugenia del Pino has been elected member of the National Academy of Science and Foreign Honorary Member of the American Academy of Arts and Science, both in the United States. In both Academies, she is the first Ecuadorian to be elected as a member.
