• Fig 24-4, batter board posts are driven into the ground on either side of the trench, with the top of the board being at full number of feet above the invert. A string guided by nails on the batter board will define the line and the grade.
• Another way is by using a 2 x 4 carrying a level vial and placed on top of an offset line stake of known elevation. Measurement is then done from the underside of the 2 x 4
