Conclusion There is no doubt that gentrification does indeed affect the lives of urban youth. It is unfortunate that the academic literature seems to have overlooked this matter, especially since a large number of academics claim that they try to understand children and their relations with space. Children have a diverse understanding to the world around them and can usually provide a more sincere opinion on the matters that affect them. Gentrification in this case seems to have affected the youth's community in a negative manner. While the youth have not directly blamed gentrification, this can also be attributed to their young age and lack of knowledge of the “official” name of “mean white people” moving in. This would be an excellent opportunity for studies that attempt to give voice to this underrepresented youth, and we believe that the subject should be studies further, in a more rigorous matter that would identify how youth is affected by gentrification, and perhaps provide solutions to the problems that rise with gentrification. |
