Dayna Clarke & Shonney Will – 6:35, documentary short
With the Butterflies of Death song as a musical backdrop, Home Without a Home investigates homelessness in Seattle. Graham Pruss, professor and project coordinator for Family Homelessness at Seattle University, offers his take.
I think that we had good lighting, audio, and composition for the interview segments. The props we used were realistic and we tried to make sure that the audience could see what the character was doing. I added darkened edges to the sleeping scene in the car in order to make it seem like night (a few people suggested to do so). We tried to show emotion through actions and facial expressions. The transitions make sense and have meaning of passing time. I think that the back story of the homeless boy could use more footage, but we had a time limit to work with and we were pushing it. We worked on the audio for a long time watching levels and fading the music in and out. We had a few tracks of audio overlaying throughout.
This video went well. The audio transitions weren’t always smooth. There was a lot of footage that we sifted through and although there was some stuff that could have been explained further in some of the narrative events, I’m happy with the end product. I think the profile of Graham and his work was successful. I really wanted to highlight their social activism and work towards community empowerment.
