In producing this film, I found out again that sometimes (and at first-usually) things don’t go the way you envision them when writing out the script or brainstorming ideas in pre-production. Some problems we had were that A) the shotgun mic gave us yet another problem as it seemed to have never activated and thus we were left with either just the built-in camera mic or a combination of both, but regardless an echo and unwarranted white noise. I also thought the color balance of a mix between natural lighting for most of the shooting, combined with the four bright shooting lights we had plus the illumination of the buildings lighting, left for an odd mix that didn’t quite look natural. I guess it was bright but the color balance seemed near impossible to get “natural”. Better bright and slightly tacky than dark and dull although. I thought our narrative structure and dramatic arc really worked well in this piece. It was a bit harder than I thought initially to get 4-5 minutes of quality video. I really liked the acting we did. I wasn’t pleased with all the camera shots as we broke the 180 degree rule along with the fact that there seems to be some shots that don’t fit right, but we had to stick with limited range of shots because there was no fifth man (aka director/camera guy) shooting it. I think in future projects I will always make sure to either be the camera guy/director or have one to help it run smoothly and allow for the best possible range of shots that look cinematic pleasing and aesthetic. Finally, I really liked the creative-commons free use music and sound effects available that I put in the video during editing. I also learned a lot about correcting color which was a great improvement from my Seahawks video, which I was on Adobe on a crashing laptop. Final Cut Pro is sooooo much better and I am thankful I chose to come to the computer lab for the last project to edit.
Great structure and storyline. The contrast and tonal range is great and the colors are vibrant. The humor was fun and the audio was mostly good. The lighting was great too with the exception of the ending, which is understandable as it is nigh time. Great job.
