Installing and using WinZip

  1. If you are familiar with downloading and installing software, download and install the latest version of WinZip. Once you have installed WinZip, skip to configuring TAR settings.

  2. Go to www.winzip.com.



  3. Click the links to download the latest version.





  4. Save or run the file.



  5. Run the installation package.



  6. Click Setup.



  7. Install the Google toolbox if you prefer.



  8. Click Next.



  9. Accept the license agreement.



  10. Change the destination folder if you like.



  11. Select the features you want.



  12. Use Legacy compression in order to maintain compatibility.



  13. Click Next to start the installation.





  14. Choose WinZip Classic.



  15. Select Custom Setup and click Next.



  16. Alter any file associations if you are a power user. Click Next



  17. Have WinZip check for updates.



  18. Launch WinZip.



  19. If you will be a frequent user you may consider purchasing a license.



  20. WinZip may corrupt data that are extracted from a TAR archive. This section describes how to configure WinZip to handle TAR files correctly.
    1. Open WinZip Classic.
    2. Select Options > Configuration > Miscellaneous tab.
    3. Uncheck TAR file smart CR/LF conversion.
