Block 31: Between 7th Ave. NE and 8th Ave. NE, and NE 40th St. and NE Northlake Way

Block 31 is home to many workers under the employ of the University of Washington as well as local businessman and entrepreneur, John Limantzakis.  The block is often associated with its great view of portage bay and its easy access to the Burke-Gilman trail by stairs.  As Seattle begins to implement a theme of cheaper housing and inner connection from the U District to downtown Seattle, this block may flourish from the improvements currently being put into effect.  The block will experience rezoning which is important to any cities urban development as it can preserve existing structures, conserve existing neighborhoods, and conserve environmental sensitive areas such as the Burke-Gilman trail.  While zoning is always brought to the inhabitant’s attention, this gives the community control over its land use, appearance, and quality of life of the block in the future.  While the blocks current condition is rather rundown, the city council will soon repave the roads and parking lots effectively covering all of the potholes and cracks giving the block a better feel as it overlooks the gorgeous portage bay.
