Due: Thursday, March 30, 2000
The purpose of the entry reflection paper is to provide a baseline sample of your teaching skills as you begin this course that can be compared with your work as you progress through it.
The paper is due in class on Thursday, March 30, 2000.
This paper should be at least three typed double-spaced pages. In the paper, you will be describing and evaluating your learning/teaching experiences so far at the university and then forming your learning/teaching goals for the future. It is a personal, informal, and conversational paper. But make sure you write clearly, logically, and correctly. Here are a few questions to help you focus:
What were the most valuable learning experiences you've had this or another university? Why were they valuable? What did you learn? What type of practice and feedback did you get? How did the teacher contribute to the experience? How did you contribute to the experience?
What were your least valuable learning experiences at this or another university? Why did they fail? How could they have been made better? How could you have made them better?
How would you describe yourself as a teacher? Do you like to teach? Why or why not? What process (steps) do you use when teaching? Do you consider yourself as a good, average, or poor teacher? What are two of your strengths and two weaknesses as a teacher? Do you have a favorite teacher? If so, why do you think he/she is good? Do you have a least favorite teacher? If so, why do you think he/she is not good?
How would you describe yourself as a student? Do you like to study? Why or why not? What process (steps) do you use when studying? Do you consider yourself a good, average, or poor student? What are two of your strengths and two weaknesses as a student?
What types of teaching do you think you'll be doing after you graduate? What do you still need to learn in order to perform well in this type of teaching? What steps are you going to take to ensure that you get this training before you graduate?
