Annotated Links to Hurston Sites

http://i.am/zora
This site caught my eye because is kind of like a web site for a Zora Neale Hurston fan club.  It gives the date for the Zora Neale Hurston Festival in Ohio (I had no idea one even existed), there was a link to a discussion that had been held at the University of Ohio about Hurston and her work, and the site  provided the first chapter of Their Eyes Were Watching God.  I included it because I liked that it provided the first chapter of the book and I just thought it was a fun web site to look through.

I have included this site because it provided a short biography of Hurston and a basic summary of the novel.  It also included summaries and analysis of all the chapters.  I thought it might be helpful for someone who is reading the book and having a difficult time understanding the concepts or picking out the themes

I was really impressed with this site.  The home page opens with five or six links to other pages concerning Zora Neale Hurston and the themes that surround the novel.  One link I liked in particular was the “Zora Neale Hurston Their Eyes Were Watching God” link.  It led to other pages featuring poetry about the novel, art, as well as academic discussion of some of the themes.  Another feature that can be reached from the home page is a yahoo top twenty search for Hurston sites, it’s a well done site.

I included this link because I mentioned the Zora Neale Hurston Festival and I thought maybe some people might be interested in finding out more information about this event.

This site is devoted entirely to Hurston and her works.  It provides a brief biography, including her education and career.  It also includes brief summaries of her novels, Their Eyes Were Watching God, Seraph on the Suwanee, Of Mules and Men, and The Sanctified Church, which, if you click on the cover image, all conveniently link to the Barnes and Nobel online buying center.  There are also related links to explore.

Clicking on this URL will connect you to Zora Neale Hurston’s short story entitled, Spunk.  This page provides a very brief description of the Harlem Renaissance and when it took place.  I have included this link because I liked that it provided a short piece of Hurston’s work in the context of the Harlem Renaissance to which she is definitely a part.
