This beautiful image of the nothern clingfish can be found at hmsc.oregonstate.edu

Vital Signs:

Scientific Name: Gobisox maeandrichs

Range: This fish can be found from Alaska all the way down to California

Length: Up to about 4 inches. The only 2 samples that we found were about 2.5 inches in length.

Habitat: This fish generally prefers to live in rocky intertidal areas that have algae. The specimens that we found were both on the Olympic Peninsula. One was near Hole-In-The-Wall and the other was at Salt Creek.

Fun Fish Fact: These fish have modified their pectoral fins for a couple reasons; it helps them to "cling" to rocks and creates a cavity for water so they can avoid dessication.
