How the Brain Moves the Eyes and the Head: Neural Mechanisms of Oculomotor and Vestibular Function

Overview
Most scientific meetings focus attention on the newest results without paying much attention to context or historical development. As a field matures, and because of the explosion of new information, it becomes more and more difficult to keep up with the latest publications, let alone to go back and study the older literature. Thus, new investigators lack the perspective of the development of a field. We hope to structure a meeting so that recent contributions can be seen in the framework of what has come before. If successful, this should be especially useful for new and younger members of the oculomotor community.
The meeting, How the Brain Moves the Eyes and Head: Neural Mechanisms of Oculomotor and Vestibular Function, will be held from October 5, 2008 until the morning of October 8, 2008 at the Rogue Valley Medical Center in Medford, OR. Guests will be housed at the Ashland Springs Hotel in neighboring Ashland, OR. Topics for discussion will include smooth pursuit, vestibulo-ocular reflexes, saccades, coordinated eye and head movements, ocular motor neurons, and the role of the cerebellum in those oculomotor systems.
Invitation
We would like to invite you to join us in reviewing the history and
recent achievements of the highly productive field of oculomotor and
vestibular neurophysiology. We will celebrate not only the
accomplishments of our field, but also the contributions of a pioneer
in that field, Dr. Albert F. Fuchs. We hope that the program and
the setting combine for a productive and enjoyable experience for
students and established researchers alike.
Sincerely,
The Organizing Committee
