Industrial Design

Industrial Design is defined in the program as the creative process of developing and testing meaningful products and systems for real world users. Thematically, the Industrial Design Program has differentiated itself in a short time to become the only Northwest industrial design course of undergraduate study with a decidedly social and environmental attention. The three main building blocks of the Program are underscored as materiality, technology, and humanity.

The undergraduate curriculum focuses on a pragmatic, hands-on approach to industrial design history, problem solving, and critical thinking. Faculty and students cooperate in a studio environment of applicable projects and active discourse. Students learn about design and manufacturing materials and processes through a series of consecutive courses involving product design and development, visual research, presentation, modeling, and prototyping.
