The Benefits of Planting

Writing my research paper helped me to discover even further how important plants are to the environment and to each individual ecosystem. I never really gave much thought on how plants function differently when they are in their natural habitat versus when they are not. When plants are put into ecosystems that they are not from, they will either fail to thrive in that system or they will do well, but attract other plants to grow in that ecosystem. Some of those other plants could end of being noxious weeds that could potentially wipe out some of the natural habitat. This is one thing that people must keep in mind when they are looking to create a garden or a habitat. It helps to exemplify the importance of knowledge in gardening; to look at plants as players on a team when creating a garden because of how plants work together.

Gardens help the ecosystem, especially in urban areas because green space is the least common part of cities. Plants help the quality of air and the quality of life through the act of planting and their natural functions. People benefit physically and mentally from having gardens by reducing the cost of fresh foods, giving people healthier food to eat, it improves air quality, and it can act as a method of decompression. These things tie into one another and play important roles in our lives. It helps us to better the environment and educate ourselves on the environment. When we garden we see a part of how the world works and we show the people around us that same idea. It creates a sense of awareness and acts as a way to keep systems moving.
