Ambient Occlusion

DEFINITION
Occlusion (blocking) of ambient light where two surfaces come near each other.

EXPLANATION
The feet on your couch hold the couch just slightly off the floor, preventing ambient light in the room from reaching the area under the couch. This is ambient occlusion.
