Conclusion

The Block between 8th and 9th and 42nd and 43rd has evolved considerably since it was first settled. From the time before white settlers, the Seattle area was home to the Duwamish Native American Tribe. Now it is a living space for people of all kinds. What may have began as a small residential district for small businesses and single family homes has become a district of high density living in the center of the city. The development of this block also very much parallels the development of the American city. As Seattle grew, the need for small, inner-urban housing diminished and the necessity of apartments rose. And in the constant growth, a desire to escape from it all came about too. Parks became a hallmark of American cities, and Seattle is no exception. The creation and continued development of Christie Park on this block attests to this. With the continued growth of Seattle, change is inevitable. As changes in zoning laws in the early 1980’s allowed for the construction of more apartment buildings, new changes to zoning will certainly lead to more development in the future.
