University District Stories

Introduction

Block 26 is situated between NE 41st Street and NE Campus Parkway, and 11th Street Ave NE and 12th Street Ave NE. This block is just one of many that composes the entirety of the University District or U District for short. The reasoning behind district’s name stems from the University of Washington being in the heart of the district. Because the block is so small in comparison to others in the area, there is currently enough room for only one building, Condon Hall. The building is owned by the UW and serves three purposes: (1) a space for UW classes to meet, (2) a halfway house for UW departments while their facilities are being renovated, and (3) an incubator for start-ups. Condon Hall’s history and use as an incubator for start-ups is the tip of the iceberg for what is to come to the U District in the coming future.
