Homework #8 - Joint Distributions, Covariance, and Correlation

This homework covers material on non-parameteric statistics in chapters 17 (specifically 17.2-17.4).  The homework assigmnment also covers material on joint probability distributions, covariance and correlation (chapters 6).  The materials in those sections imply the following skills as being important:

  1. Joint Discrete Distribution:  Describe what is meant by a joint distribution using everyday language.   Interpret the mathetmatical notation for joint distributions.  Calculate probability statements for joing distributions.
  2. Multinomial Distribution: Recognize situations consistent with a multinomial distribution.  Solve problems involving the multinomial distribution.
  3. Correlation and Covariance:  Describe these concepts using everyday language.  Calculate measures of covariane and correlation for given data.
