Oceanography 443, Winter 2009
Design of Oceanographic Field Experiments

Introduction

Welcome to the course web site for Oceanography 444, the five-credit course which constitutes the second part of the senior thesis experience. During the two part course students design research projects covering facets of all four oceanographic subdisciplines. This year students conducted research at the Kermadec volcanic arc near New Zealand, aboard the R/V Thomas G. Thompson. In addition to planning their own research, the students were responsible for much of the cruise planning. The class members now have nine short weeks in which to complete their sample processing and data analysis and prepare a manuscript using the format of the journal of Limnology and Oceanography. Their final results will also be posted to this web site in after a 2-day class symposium, open to the public, describing their results, on June 2 and 4, 2009.
