Course name changed 2005 from "Design Seminar" to "Professional Practice Studio" by Professor Scott Rutherford. The course obtained the original "Design Seminar" name because guest speakers (professional civil engineers) provide lectures on value engineering, engineering ethics, project management, legal aspects (lawsuits), environmental regulations, and contract law. The Mathcad lecture was presented because this software is commonly used for professional engineering projects (the design and operating parameters can have units and the equations are easily understandable making it easier for engineers at various world-wide locations to work together on the same projects).
