Conclusion

While both Seattle and the University District have gone under frequent changes since the founding of Latona neighborhood in the late 1800s, and while the initial surroundings, and even many of the buildings that occupy the space, of the west edge of the University District have changed, the original purpose of the area has remained the same, to house those who call the University District home. Originally these people were middle class workers who worked along the railroad or in Seattle, and with the expansion of the University of Washington, students began to call the block home. Recent proposals by the University Community Council in 1998 and the University District recommendations plan in 2016 both state that the west edge of the University District will remain an area that continues to serve the purpose that it served back in the 1880s, to provide housing to those who inhabit the region.
