Conclusion

The story of this block is a story of many people, of the families and students who have lived there throughout the years as the University District has developed and changed. Recognizes the blocks use as a residential area in the midst of a commercial area, one can see how the changing community changes the functions of the buildings. The blocks transitions from privately owned homes and apartment buildings, to office space, and then finally to the Elm Hall dormitory reflects changes in the U District’s structure and function through time. Elm Hall’s convenient location has majorly impacted its function throughout time, and because of its importance to student life in recent years, it has been a catalyst for new projects. Constructing a better U District for the future is an endeavor which is centered around improving the lives of students like the ones who live in Elm Hall. This microhistorical research on block 27 shows how developments in the area, especially at the university affect the way the surrounding area advances.
