Conclusion

This block's land is a battleground where ordinary neighbors, landowners, the city government, and poor people, among others, have struggled for power.

Power over nature allowed the construction of University Playground and the surrounding houses, and the maintenance of a clean living environment with breathable air.

The power of property allowed the erasure of indigenous claims to the land that became this block.

The state's claim to property rights over its parks, along with appeals to public health and safety, have legitimized its forcing homeless people out with no regard for the consequences they might suffer. This reflects the power of landowning and rent-paying citizens to mobilize the violent arms of the state for their own interests.

Homeless people and empathetic members of community have not given up on winning resources to meaningfully solve homelessness. Whether they succeed depends on how power over this land shifts as the current development of the University District unfolds.
