Shorebirds
Main Page

Life History:

Shorebirds are birds that spend their life running, walking and wading along the edge of the ocean. This group does not include birds that are only incidentally on the beach, but spend the majority of their time at sea, on the water or in other habitats (i.e. gulls are not shorebirds).

Shorebirds spend the majority of their time in exposed areas out in the open, and they tend to aggregate socially in groups of mixed species.  This makes them a great group of birds for beginning bird watchers.
