Welcome to Block 17

U-District is rich with history. The "Ave" is bustling with activity every day as students travel up and down the street to grab food and shop. As you go farther left, people become less and less abundant. If you reach the bottom right corner of the U-District, you encounter the block between 7th Ave. NE and 8th Ave. NE, and NE 42nd St. and NE 40th St. Don't let the lack of people fool you. There is much history on Block 17.

To give a little preview of what is in this block, I will have to first start with the University District P-Patch. A third of the block is covered by a community-built garden that has been around since 1973. The block also features a battle of time between the old (houses) to the new (apartments). With Seattle increasing in popularity due to both UW and the emerging tech scene, housing has been in demand.
