Conclusion

There is an incredible amount of activity in the University District for this land being inhabited for such a short period of history. Focusing on a specific city block is a great way to bring this activity into one unique perspective. After discovery and learning the history of this individual city block, there are major takeaways that speak to the history of its identity. The first critical reflection is that this block was originally inhabited and owned by the Duwamish people and nature itself. This was taken from them as land throughout our country was taken from American Natives as large cities grew and pushed them out. Since this shift in ownership of land, this site has been largely utilized as the University of Washington property. As the University of Washington continuously grows at a fast pace, this land will continue to grow more valuable. As long as the University of Washington is around, the site will continue to be utilized for University purposes whether that may be for student housing, academic buildings, or maintained parks.
