University Way NE, or better known as "The Ave", is a hub for plenty of activity. Students from the UW have spent countless days and nights on this strip of road. From studying late at the coffee shops to grabbing a quick bite to eat, there’s always activity.

One prominent feature of the Ave is at the intersection of NE 45th St. There you will see the intricate architecture of ornate columns designed into the wall. The large Wells Fargo sign may also draw your attention. This is the one of the main banks in the area, but it didn’t start out as it is seen today. Originally it was the First Interstate bank of Washington, before the company was acquired by the Wells Fargo Bank in 1996. The location has since remained in the possession of the Wells Fargo Company.

As you travel north along the Ave, you’ll come across numerous shops, these include the Buffalo exchange, a company founded in 1974 that now spans across 17 states and provides second hand clothing options to people. Another company with similar intentions is the Seattle Goodwill just at the end of the block. Founded in 1923, Seattle Goodwill is a company that sells secondhand clothing and other items and helps to employ and educate those in need, it is a company that has become an integral part of the community and has its doors open to those in need.

Another key part of this block is the City of Seattle Customer Service Center. One of seven throughout the Seattle area, they act as small versions of City hall and serve people with many of their needs. These include applying for passports, pay bills, get information, and even access the internet. These places assist the community and serve over 225,000 yearly.

This stretch of block makes up just a portion of the Ave but is none the less an integral part. It serves the community and university and adds to the ever growing environment and life that makes up the Ave. While this block is predominantly the Wells Fargo bank, it still makes up part of the larger aspect of the community that it is a part of. The Ave is ever changing, but at the heart of it all are these shops and community centers that will always serve the people.
