Conclusion

So you’ve come to the end.

You have learned about unique structures of this block, explored its history, and contemplated its future. Two big takeaways you should have gotten from this exhibit are:

  1. The University District grew rapidly in the face of the University of Washington’s move to this area, adding on more student housing to the women’s university that was here prior. From these two places, urbanization of this neighborhood flourished allowing a commercial hub to grow. It is important to realize that this move encouraged a center of condensed housing and business to grow (communities are built around universities).
  2. The U District is constantly growing and trying to pack more student residents in as well as incorporate better transportation in a place with little room for parking spaces. We are already starting to see more infrastructure being revamped with the addition of the light rail station and UW’s acquisition of many surrounding buildings. From this you should be able to critically predict how these changes will affect the neighborhood, not only economically, but socially as well.

I hope you enjoyed your experience in my gallery and thank you for visiting!
