Introduction

Greetings, and welcome to an in-depth report and analysis on the history of one of the more active blocks within Seattle’s University District. People tend to focus their attention on what is known as “the Ave” while discussing the neighborhood, but there are other important spots as well for business, and housing alike. The block we focus our attention on in this report is located between Roosevelt Way NE and 11th Ave NE, situated between 50th St. NE and 47th St. NE, in the northwest area of the U-District. Impossible to ignore, the block’s central structures are the two Auto dealerships located next to one another, and surrounded by newly constructed apartment complexes. Located between 3 arterial streets, it has remained a very busy location blending commercial and residential interests in one prominent area. Within this report, one will discover how this block changed significantly in a very short amount of time in the early days of the U-District, yet it has remained an area for many people to reside, in addition to being the central business location for the automotive industry for almost 100 years in the neighborhood. This report will inform someone with no prior knowledge of the block, as to how things have changed, and also stayed consistent on one of the busiest and important blocks in the University District.
