Final blog post – wrapping it all up

Food will be the next major global conflict. It was cause security issues in the form of mass immigration. We do not see these issues of massive hunger and mass immigration now because it is being suppressed. It can be overlooked by wars or completely ignored by government suppression of news. Our group had a bit of a rough start because the original topic idea we had listed was very large, on a very grand scale. We wanted to try and cover how mass immigration can lead to the next global conflict between nations and states world wide, exploitation for terror and global food security issues. The topic was just too big, too deep , and too elaborate in the restricted amount of time we had to work with and by the time we finally grabbed a topic more than half the quarter had gone by already, no fault to anyone but finding a correct topic in the amount of time we had was rough but we managed. We ended up doing a project on how immigration affects local food stability. From what our group found out, there has been an unstable workforce in the food industry at the harvesting level on the farms from the direct source itself. Many farmers have stated they just do not have the necessary works available from the American market, though, the undocumented work force is much higher than we thought it was, so there are truly important and necessary to our food distribution and food security needs. Undocumented workers are vital part of our food security in our nation. Americans are not lining up to do the very challenging jobs on farm lands and they are not begging for the low pay, they long hours, and harsh out door environments. Now, with some of the harshest immigration laws and border line “hunt” on those that are not documented, it puts our food workers and farms at risk. One of our group members was fortunate enough to meet two girls that had a lot of information to share with us about their own personal experiences with family and undocumented work on the farms. From being underpaid, work long hours, no medical benefits or any benefits for that matter, undocumented workers are literally working themselves into the dirt for little to nothing in return and no future stability for when they are old and what little they do earn or save goes to their families. It is a silent tragedy that is not being addressed due to the current status of the workers and the way they came to this nation. These aren’t criminals, they are hard working people that just want to earn a living in the US, and they are a very vital part of the food system. If they all left, we would not have long lines of people coming around looking for these jobs. The jobs they do are the ones no one wants, but everyone of us needs done to survive. Looking back at the grand scheme of things, mass immigration will be set to a much more negative connotation. We will have millions unable to eat, starving and wanting to do anything to just feed themselves and their families, and sadly this can lead to violence and unrest. We are lucky here on our side of the hemisphere…. But just on the other side of the world , there are millions far worse off sitting on a ticking time bomb just waiting to go off… sadly, it is only a matter of time until it does. We can stop that madness here on our side. We are about to see it happen In Venezuela.. it is in our best interest to not let that happen anywhere in the world, especially near our home. We can start by taking care of those already here, and push for a better global policy – food security is not a single nations worry – it is a worry that belongs to the whole world. This action project was very challenging but very eye opening and listening to others speak it sparked so much passion. Sometimes all it takes is a simple push to light the spark inside, but this action project shows hard hard it is to take that spark and set fire to an idea and make it happen.
