An Introduction
The University District is one of 127 informal Seattle neighborhoods, each with their own culture and history. Over the past century, the district has transformed from a new settlement into a bustling university campus. This gallery not only explores the history—past and present—of the University District but also of a singular block within the district. This small scaled exploration is significant because it reveals individualities and cultures of blocks while reflecting the larger historical shifts in the district and ultimately city of Seattle. Through the course of this gallery, we will realize the current state of the district, investigate the beginnings of my block prior to civilization, examine the effects of urban growth on the infrastructure in the city, explore the cultural identity of the community, and finally foreshadow the future cultivation of the district.
